Shameless midi conversion -- but the instruments sound decent enough.

Shiverwar responds:

Actually, if what you're saying is what I think it means, meaning taking a MIDI and directly pasting it into FL, that is not what I did. I actually had to follow along with a video to make sure I got it right, and the MIDI would not have had some of what I added into it. Sorry to say, sir, but your review is rather unfounded and baseless. Thanks for the attention, though.

... Finally, someone has REAL talent.

These other people aren't lying to you - with a bit of luck and publicity to get yourself known, you could EASILY be involved with film scores and the like.

Outstanding. Stunning. Flawless. Perfect in every regard.

20/10, 10/5.

paradoxphenomena responds:

Thanks for all the support and compliments. As long as there are listeners I will keep making music.

Partly there.

Not bad. You aced the notes and the harmonies. I really do like the instrument choices, although the lead you picked doesnt really fit in all the time, and I think something else would have been more suitable. The rhythm sounds off at around the 1:30 and the 2:30 mark for a long while.

My main issue with this song, though, is the mastering. This would have been EPIC (because, like I said, your notes/instrument choices are awesome) if the volume would have been mastered appropriately. Its actually hard to hear the melody at certain points, the drums are occasionally way too loud, the strings are barely audible at times, etc. With a little bit more work, this would have been ridiculous.

All in all, I gave you a 7/10 and a 4/5 (I rounded up - how nice of me!).

TRUMPETHero1992 responds:

thanks for the advice man. I've converted to reason and digital performer, I made this song on a $20 program. I'll try to update this soon.

Congradulations.

You officially have the best RuneScape remix on NG. Don't take that lightly - I'm not just some clueless idiot who says these things to every song they review. I've searched the portal for ages for decent runescape songs, and this is BY FAR the best mix I have ever heard.

... I can't believe this is non midi. Holy hell.

6/5, 20/10.

paradiddlesjosh responds:

Well, like I said a few reviews ago, I did use a .midi file as the basis, BUT none of the instruments are from .midi banks (very much unlike the other RuneScape arrangements on NG, which essentially ripped the .midi file from the game and threw an extra non-.midi track over the .midi); everything was done using soundfonts and FL Studio's effects (i.e. LOTS OF REVERB).

Thanks for your review, nonetheless. :D

Loved it

Hey, nice work on this one! Good work especially on finding the correct harmonies used ingame. I also liked the sound of your flutes (or whatever that actually is... Only you know for sure). The phrasing sounds awesome, too. Must have taken a good deal of time to get this as well as you did.

Just a few nit-picking pointers off the top of my head:

- I don't know if its just me or my speakers or something, but the majority of harmony strings seem a touch flat. Maybe the soundfonts were intended originally for another key or something, I'm not sure. They just sound a bit off.

- That high hat/cymbal/whatever that is; I know it's already been mentioned, but a snare with some pop in it would do a bit better here. Even try a tambourine for a little bit, that wouldnt be too bad. Also, since its basically the only percussion in this song (something you also might want to reconsider), don't hold back on the dynamics. Drum dynamics are very, very effective in pieces like this and are often over looked.

- Maybe I'm wrong on this one, but isn't the tempo a bit faster ingame? I seem to think its around 10 BPM(ish) higher, but it's not like I have RS running atm to actually check.

Well, there you go. Aside from my minor suggestions, this piece was very well done.

9/10, 5/5 (and that's quite rare from me).

I'm disappointed that you're done with making RS music, but I can understand why. Random question time - what music software do you use? Fruity Loops?

Good luck in the future!

JakesFable responds:

Haha wow thanks alot for the long review, Its not everyday I get one of these. Yeah it took me some long hard hours to get the harmonics and notes right and even better than the original I would think and I the original was like 10-12 BPM and this one is like 9-11 BPM, Also I'm not totally done with remaking Runescape music tracks, I'm just working on original music tracks for a while and yes this is Fruity Loops. Thanks alot for the review it was greatly aprieciated ;)

Hmmm.

I don't really know what to say. I love Runescape to death, but I just plain hate the original song here. This version is much better than the original, of course, but I still don't care too much for it. You did a great job with it, and it sounds much improved, but I guess in the end it just comes down to personal taste. =\

Because you worked hard on it (yeah, I noticed that, it IS over four minutes), 8/10, 4/5. I'd LOVE for you to continue with a few more RS songs - I loved your mix of the main theme, man.

JakesFable responds:

Yeah It was the hardest to get the time right out of all my remakes and I'm happy it turned out better than the original, Thanks alot for the review and glad you liked my main theme remade ;)

Well done.

Truely epic. I love the bells in particular - they add an extra special bit of dramatic flair.

10/10, 5/5.

DavidOrr responds:

Bells and Chimes are such wonderful instruments- I don't think they're used enough in writing.

Awesome!

I'll be extremely happy when you redo this with different instruments, as you said you would. Not that I dont already love this, but it'd be even better with different ones.

I intend to make a mix of the theme song, homescape, and newbie melody (3 songs blended into one). I'd love for you to check it out once its finished =)

10/10, 5/5.

Runescape FTW (I'm a level 103 member, account name is Remotecube if you were wondering).

JakesFable responds:

Sweet and I hopefully I might soon, Thanks alot for the review ;)

Try again...

The beginning sounded awesome. But the drumming literally destroyed it. No one is going to cut you slack (especially after 6 solid years of learning, as you made us aware) for something THAT off.

The rhythm was way off at parts, the drums themselves sounded AWFUL (I've heard better sounding 8 bit drums...), the accents werent even CLOSE to sensible, and it was far, far too repetitive. The song seemed to follow absolutely no order and just jumped all over the place without a second thought.

Oh, I want you to do me a little favor. Scroll up above your enormously huge and completely unneeded author's comment and read what it says under "Licensing Terms". Noone has to ask your permission for ANYTHING, genious. There is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it anyways. What're you gonna do - call up YouTube and complain because someone used your song without permission and expect them to delete his account? Hi, welcome to the internet, MILLIONS of videos use songs "without permission", you need to get over yourself.

And yeah, Einstein, having your trebble and bass at the normal levels while you make music like the majority of your listeners do is probably a good move.

4/10, 2/5. If this played in a club, I'd go home.

Quarl responds:

lol. First I'll mark you're review as abusive. Then I'll wait for a few more sensible people to do the same. Then your review will be worthless, and you'll have waisted your time with all that. While the creative commons prevents me from taking action against those who use my production according to those laws, it is still illegal for them to take my productions and use them to gain money and that's really what I'm worried about.

Also, you obviously know nothing about rhythm. It doesn't have to be in 4/4 for it to be right. In fact, some of the best rhythms jump in and out of their time signatures in order to produce staggering effects. Ignorance.

Astounding.

If you have the sheet music, I'd give you my left arm for it. Well, maybe my left leg, since I'd need the arm to play it properly!

The dynamics were especially incredible, and everything sounded spot on. I cant believe it was a live recording.

5/5, 10/10.

I'll be watching for your new works!

Reasoner responds:

Thanks for the review. Sorry I don't have the sheet music,,,,but I appreciate your eagerness to learn it.
